Re: Mr. Cloutier has taught me nothing about gambling. Can you help ou
The first one describes how you should actually value a hand. Adjusting you range of hands, vs the type of opponent etc. Everyone knows Harrington is supposed to by tight, and he looks like Tuan Le compared to what TJ recomends.
The 2nd book describes various bluffs, and how to adjust your strategy as you stack size decreases (inflection points) |

the harrington book gets you thinking into the mode of analysis that you should be in. besides pot odds vs card odds and all the math involved, it also makes you think about your image, other players' image, analyzing how they play how you play etc

Read posts by some aggressive players around here (Woodguy, MLG, Sossman, etc). [/ QUOTE ] Thanks for the ups, but I exist in a poker advice tier a rung or two below the other two fellows mentioned. Regards, Woodguy |

Re: Mr. Cloutier has taught me nothing about gambling. Can you help ou
I think I am in just about the same place as you, grasshopper, but don't blame TJ. The 2 hours I spent skimming through one of his books at Borders was probably the best money I never spent on poker advice.
You are probably a bit beyond step one--in addition to making the statistically correct plays most of the time you probably pay a good bit of attention to what your opponents are doing and feed that info into your thought processes. Only to be rewarded, of course, by some yoyo calling a big bet when the odds were against him, hitting his gutshot straight draw, and knocking you out 10 short of the money. All you can do is keep studying and play, play, play, play, play. Even a fool will eventually get good enough cards to win big if he or she plays often enough, and added knowledge and experience should bring that about sooner. If there were a magic bullet, I doubt anyone would publish it here. |
