i'd probably push 99 and fold 88. if the table were incredibly loose and passive i'd limp.

What is your reasoning for pushing 99 and folding 88? I would think that the only hands calling your push would be 1010-AA AK maybe AQ AJ. How would 99 be any better against that range?

I do see that he was called by A8 which I would consider a bad call but optimal for the raiser.

Just trying to learn your reasoning because I have been struggling late in tournies with these types of hands.

the BB is relatively short here, so i'd expect a call from 99/88 and maybe a loose call from a9/a8.

Something else to consider is that your stack is still plenty enough to cause real damage to anyone who calls. MP1 is the only active player who can call without wrecking his tournament if he loses. Given that, I think your opponent's calling range is going to be fairly narrow, giving you much better folding equity. The possible exception is the big blind, who may be getting desperate, but you do have a legitimate hand and if he calls with a worse one, great.

A push is fine.
