it may be weak play heads up but you shouldnt be taking Ax to the showdown or chasing hands with negative pot equity just for metagame purposes as heads up confrontation in these 6handed games is rare considering how loose the games are along with the fact that most players are way too passive to be bluffing you off ace high with a weaker hand here considering that NOONE except tags in that 5/10 game fold any pair let alone ace high. unless the other player is a tag he is not good enough to identify that you are capable of folding the winning hand most of the time.

i will call the turn and fold the river sometimes while other times i just fold the turn.

Easy turn fold.

You aren't going to win every hand you know.

I am embarrassed to say that I often play this the same way.

are we check-folding a river J though?

one big reason I MIGHT fold is because there aren't that many scare cards that can come that can expose a river bet as a likely bluff. if the board was say JTxx and you had K9, the river is an A, you check and he bets, well you're against a bluff a lot of the time there as a naked J or T is checking there a lot of the time. on this board, nothing can really come to make a K check through

I'm not sure what you mean. Can you rephrase that or explain please?

I take it this is your first 'real' downswing?

there is inherent value in the fact that calling the turn might lead to a check-check river and winning the pot

Yeah, that's tough . . . you'd think a medium pocket pair would just check behind on the river . . . ditto JT. I probably fold if a jack hits, but I have to think about it a little more.

Maybe, or I might be a big fat cry baby. What would you call a "real" downswing?
