Villain is loose passive. Calls down too much.
Does not find the raise button very often, but I figured he would bet if checked to on river. What do you think?

Preflop: Hero is BB with 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].

Hero checks intending to call...

Why did you figure he would bet a worse hand if checked to?

It seemed villain was paying attention and I had recently given up on overcards several times.
I was hoping my sign of weakness would get him to bet a 7 or worse...

I didn't see value in the bet, thought a raise was possible(but unlikely) and a fold was also unlikely. Check? What say you?

Against a really loose, passive villain, the only two options I see are:

Bet-fold, and check-fold. I don't see check-call as being particularly great unless there's a particular reason you expect him to bet a worse hand.

Thanks. The more I look at it the more I see bet/fold on this board against this opponent.

This time he did bet a busted draw and I picked up an extra BB.

I think a book review of the river is in order for me. It has been awhile.

Being results-oriented, check calling the river was great against that opponent. Entity is right though, in that if you really do think he is loose passive and won't bet without a hand, check calling isn't a great line.

So, update your read and check call marginal hands against this guy to induce bets from busted draws (or even more marginal hands).
