Re: I think the dark bet is dumb
Occasionally a dark bet can be an interesting maneuver, but you have to have an intelligent reason to do it and an intelligent enough opponent to think what you are trying to make him think. Also, the problem with a dark bet is that a lot of the time they will call that one last big bet with any two cards just to see what in the world you are doing.
Definately not a play that wins for anyone very often. -Yarney |

F him. He is upset you didn't bet him out on the turn and save him 2 bets? Too bad. You don't play poker to try and save your opponents money.
I also think betting in the dark and checking in the dark are retarded. |

Re: I think the dark bet is dumb
The only time I use the dark bet is when I have the nuts or close to nuts on the turn. I'm almost always called as I think the opponent views it as some sort of weakness.
There was a very interesting dark bet by John Juanda vs Dan Negreanu in a televised event last year. Negreanu was on a flush draw and if memory serves correctly Juanda dark bet all in or some very large amount. Negreanu looked at him like he had 2 heads because if he hits the flush, Juanda would have been in very bad shape. The play was extremely risky and totally unnecessary. |
