I really recommend 30-35 buy-ins before advancing up to the next lvl.

This for several reasons. For one, you WILL get a bad beat at some point, and once you get it and your BR isn't high enough, you might get an underlying fear of getting outside the money in the next one you play which will affect your play greater than many think.

The other reason is that in my opinion it's very important to have discipline in poker. Try to set up a goal of 30-35 buy-ins before you advance up to the next lvl. And don't sneak peak at the next lvl. Try to hold that discipline! It will be boring at times struggling with the $5+0,5, but I think it's very important to build a good discipline in poker, especially in an advancing state.

why so high, im curious? is losing a bankroll of 20x really that likely? it seems like you'd have to go on a crazy bad streak to lose that much.

In my last 1000 the most I've dropped has been 10 buyins. But I consider myself to have been very fortunate that this is the case. I have dropped 10 on a couple of different occasions though and if I had dropped 10 on two consecutive occasions then I'd have dropped 20. It's easy!

When you've played a few hundred more you'll start to understand why people recommend having more than a couple of buyins for the level that you are at. Personally, I usually keep 60-80 but currently have 90 although I'm thinking of moving up again soon.

Maybe thats overkill but it sure feels good to have that level of security to me.

i see. maybe its hard for me to see because i'm having INCREDIBLE luck right now. its crazyyyy. short stacked (700?) at my last one with 6 people remaining and i ended up in first.

after 12 tourneys.. ROI 220% and ITM 67%. i've built 2 buy ins to 16. god i hope this continues for a while.

Dude, I never won at poker until I started playing SnGs. SnGs are the easiest form of poker.
