FWIW, my buddy has a set of these, although they are the normal NJ's, not the desert sands ones. I don't think it makes a difference. Anyway, he uses them A LOT, daily home games. After more than a year of use, I think a couple are chipped like that but less than five. Could be from dropping them on the floor instead of normal use; droppage is bound to happen over time. So they hold up reasonably well.

Anyway, the NJ's are great, but I found that they have gotten slimy after all the use. Worse than the normal composite chips. Not sure if you can wash them.
