Re: WSOP Event #2 Nightmare
I think he means in line. I know the horseshoe worked that way in previous years, but only for the initial registration. Once you were on file, you could just buy in to the rest of the events. Can't speak for the Rio this year though.

Re: WSOP Event #2 Nightmare
Yeah I meant what he said. I think I'm going to start saying "in queue" or something like that to avoid confusion.
I'm glad they are starting to put out information about sats and such -- it sounds like they will start using the room as early as today? I'm heading over there at some point this evening and will update what I find. |

Re: WSOP Event #2 Nightmare
I have to agree that these do indeed sound like serious nightmares for the players.
Are they somehow expecting massive numbers of players trying to register for different tourneys to magically go smoothly? I had consider the idea that the tourney length would be pretty long. You have to get from 1500 or 2000 players or so down to a final-table in a single-day. Just 2 years ago the main-event had 800 players and that took a week. They will HAVE to speed up the structure and I just don't think 1-hour levels will do it. They will either go with 40 minute levels OR they will skip levels entirely as was mentioned. Basically...I already knew that there would be massive disorganization and REALLY long lines as well as problems trimming the field down in a single-day. But the tales I am reading from this thread have me more concerned than I was before. This sucks. |

Re: WSOP Event #2 Nightmare
To use last year's $1500 NL Holdem event as an example, from 831 they played down to 18. The final table last year started at 9 20pm after a 90 minute dinner break and had just entered level 18 (2k ante, 6k/12k blinds). In my opinion, they'll probably drop the levels to 50 minutes the first day, and they'll get down to 27.

LOL. Sounds brilliant. Actually I assume they will use the same system as they did for the WSOP Circuit tournament [/ QUOTE ] Nope. I registered in person at the Rio cage on Tuesday and the guys at the next window were doing the same. Initially there seemed to be a problem for them as they didnt have photo-id [ie passport as they were from the UK] on them. However eventually it was decided that they didnt need id right now as we would be "id-ed" on the day. All i got for the $1500 was a receipt stating the event - no seating assigned. Therefore on the day everyone registered is still presumably going to all have to line-up and exchange their receipt for a seating assignment and chips. They'll probably have about 3 or 4 people trying to cope with 2000 entrants. |

Re: WSOP Event #2 Nightmare
I entered yesterday after winning a satellite the day before. Same drill-- I have the receipt, but that's all. I'm going to go down to the Pavilion (warning: have cab drivers take you to the Pavilion-- which is the convention center--not the main casino entrance--it'll save you about a 600 yard walk) tomorrow when the dealer event is taking place to check out what to do on Friday.

Re: WSOP Event #2 Nightmare
they upped the price in those satellites to 175 and paid out 3 chips-- or 1500 worth-- to winner to align with thebuy-in for the first public hold'em event-- #2.

Re: WSOP Event #2 Nightmare
Well, if it's any consolation, i'm pretty sure the original poster is wrong about it being televised the next day. the wsop website has the broadcast schedule, which says that this event will be broadcast on 8/23/2005. As for the long lines and registration hassles... i got nothin. good luck with all of that.

THat is assuming they get a final table by that time. |

Re: WSOP Event #2 Nightmare
I'm not sure if anyone posted this but the event was cappped at 2200 and sold out last night. when I left at 9 p.m. the line was down I-15 to the Tropicana exit. Not really but close. The point is that if you want to play a NLH event get there early (yesterday).
