Glen, re Saddam's poker: "He takes his bluffs to far"
Saddam basically called the UN and US's bluffs over weapons inspectors in years previously. Maybe they should have shown down a real hand back then, instead of just mucking. Anyway, my pick - Fidel Castro - has to be the the overwhelming favourite for heads up world leader poker champion. He'd have been the recurring winner for decades. He'll take his small stack and have the big stacks tearing their hair out as he outmaneouvres them... G |

If ". most great poker players are very intelligent... " then that pretty much means the rumors are false then?

But seriously folks,
I understand the humor behind this comment and this thread; I also understand that everything is relative - but regardless of what anyone thinks of his politics - I think it is extremely naive and somewhat absurd to believe that George W Bush is not an intelligent person. I mean think about the scope of that statement for a moment. I for one think he is an extremely intelligent person - regardless of my opinions politically. I mean it is not as though he gained the ofice because of a noble birth. No matter how he presents himself and his ideas, and whether or not we agree or disagree with these ideas is not relevant, there can be little doubt that on the grand scale of things, he is an intelligent human being. Just some thoughts... Michael D. |

I agree with this completely. Dubya acts funny sometimes, but he is no idiot. He is not one of the smartest people in the world, but his is much more intelligent than average. I get a kick out of how so many people call him dumb, and most of those people are much less intelligent than he is. Personally, I was making fun of his speaking style. -g- |

Maybe he didn't get his post because of noble birth...
But he had the time and money to run for office because of noble birth. (Noble in the sense of family money anyway) I believe he is both 3rd generation oil money and third generation politician. The road was well paved. There are probably many less financially endowed people who could do the job just a well or better, but simply can't mount the campaign to get the job. The absolute hieght you can jump to has something to do with how high the ground is you're standing on to start with. A person who can jump 10 feet high but stands at sea level cannot jump to higher absolute hieght than someone who can jump 1 foot... but is standing in the Rockies! Sincerely, AA |

I think he would get a lot of action on his big hands because he would be constantly underestimated - and people would try and run him over. So... as long as he can dump the losers and minimize the losses he should be a long term winner... It would probably take a 5-4 vote from the floor to ensure victory however...

Thanks for all the responses on this post.
I believe President Bush would be a good, maybe not great, poker player. I think his strategy of pressure on Iraq is an excellent one. He may yet defy the conventional wisdom and war may yet be avoided. I'm not a Bush supporter, but I wanted to toss this idea out there. |

Sure, he'd be good....as long as he had 20 or so advisors looking over his shoulder, gaining information on the other players holdings and tendencies, and had his brother influence the dealer to deal him the best hands.....
