Her fears are well founded. There's no telling how many young, nubile, scantily-clad, surgically modified skanks are likely to throw themselves at me in the poker room on any given night. We were just starting to rock with the tourists the other day at my favorite 20-40 when two of the women jumped on the table and put on a lesbo show. The game was ruined, but I made a ton of cash on the video.

Seriously, your buddy's wife should be strapped to a rubber wall and fed a steady diet of thorazine until the hallucinations subside.

It's not THAT bad of a concern by his wife. It sounds like most of you either aren't married, or are married to someone with no morals whatsoever. She's not allowed to have a concern. That's what wives are for...

Thanks guys for all your responses. I think they might give it a go. This couple as well as myself are born-again Christians, believing in the God of the Bible. Thus, modesty is a concern for a wife who doesn't expect for her husband to cheat on her-ever. I accept the comments made in jest, but in all seriousness, it's a respectable concern for someone who wants to obey the Bible and not lust after other women .

Plenty of born again Christians gamble(myself not included- er... the born again part). Depending on your views it's not a sin per se. As with many other things it's a sin if done to excess.

If your friend is going to Foxwoods then the modesty of the Poker room females shouldn't be a problem. The cocktail waitresses wear these psudo-indian-princess short dresses which aren't any worse than you would see in a Denny's. You would see alot worse (from the patrons) by going to the dance clubs like BB Kings but nothing like the "Vegas topless showgirl" look.

regards,
Tim

Born-again Christians supposedly believe in the Bible and in following it stringently. The Bible says nothing on the subject of gambling. Indirectly it condemns not being responsible with any stewardship, money being one of them, and it says not to love money or to seek to be rich quickly. To love a game like poker or to pursue it is not condemned. In fact, the book of Matthew indirectly supports monetary investing, presenting it as wise to make more money out of existing money. I don't see any better investment of a small sum of money than to play poker.

To be fair, throughout church history, gambling has been considered a sin worthy of church discipline. But the church has not always adhered to the Bible. In fact, any believer who actually studies the Bible will realize that the Catholic church is so far from the teachings of scripture that it cannot be followed, i.e., the Bible saying that Jesus is the one mediator between God and man, and the Catholic church has the pope in that place.

I'm going to post without permission something that Daniel Neg. (can't spell) sent a friend of mine. Daniel is a professing born-again Christian, and told me in an email that he believes in God and the Bible. Here is what he wrote my friend on this subject:

I've been asked this question so many times in private e-mails that I think
it's about time I address it here at the forum. I often have people ask me
how I justify what I do and maintain my beliefs.

Well,as another poster pointed out there is nothing in the Bible says that
anything about gambling being a sin. Personally I think anything you do that
becomes an obession can be sinful- eating too much, drinking too much,
becoming obsessed with money, etc.

As long as poker doesn't interfere with your relationship with God I don't
see a problem with it. If you put gambling before God that would be a
problem. If gambling is destroying your family, I see that as a problem

I often get the argument that what I do isn't Godly, i.e. taking other
peoples money. What endeavor or business would this not be true? You open a
restaurant, that's a gamble. You get married, that's a gamble. You invest in
the stock market, well we all know that's a gamble!

I make my living by being better than my opponents at a game. Shaquille
O'Neal does the same thing. He makes millions of dollars because he is
better than hs opponents. Does he take money from people directly? Not
exactly, but indirectly he does. He's the best player on his team and makes
more money than they do. If other teammates improve their play they'll make
more money.

There are a million similar anologies you could use. Get a promotion at a
company because you work harder than other employees. .. etc.

It's not sinful to be rich. In fact in the Bible it states that some will
have more than others. It's sinful to obssess about money and make it your
God... I don't think I do that.

Having said all that I do feel a moral obligation to use the gift I was
given in a positive way. Whether it be to make a difference in someone's
life or to aid those less fortunate.

are you KIDDING me? his wife is CLEARLY very insecure about herself, her marriage, or both. with summer approaching, i worry for this man. if she's this concerned about how women dress at casinos, does she keep him sequestered at home during the summer when women walk down the sidewalk in revealing clothing? my guess is that his testicles would be in peril if he even suggested going to the beach ...
