Re: 15 dead... Newsweek says \" oops \"
There must be accountability for your actions.
If you yell fire in a crowded theatre and someone dies in the stampede you are responsible. If you yell " the americans are flushing the koroan down the toilet " and someone dies you are responsible. People died over a fake news story. Simply saying it is freedom of speech is not enough. You left wing wackos are soo quick to attack the US. I read and agree with your post about the koran... its just a book. Cant just ignore this because it does NOT make the US look bad. |

Has it crossed your mind that just maybe Newsweek backed off not because of new evidence, but because of the riots?

[/ QUOTE ] It wasnt new evidence, its the fact that Newsweek ran a story with global implications with a dubious anonymous source. But I digress. The mass media never makes a mistake. |

Newsweek isn't responsible for any deaths. The people who murdered the dead are responsible.

True. Just like the military never makes a mistake. Just like the republicans never make a mistake. Just like a true christian never makes a mistake. Just like the democrats can never do any thing right. Just like the true muslim is a jihadi fanatic. Anyone want to wager that this will be reported again? Even money. Religious humiliation is a part of psy op training. |

Re: 15 dead... Newsweek says \" oops \"
[ QUOTE ]
"On Saturday, Isikoff spoke to his original source, the senior government official, who said that he clearly recalled reading investigative reports about mishandling the Qur'an, including a toilet incident. But the official, still speaking anonymously, could no longer be sure that these concerns had surfaced in the SouthCom report." [/ QUOTE ] So, the official read these reports but these did not make it into the report. We still do not know if the report is true or false. We do know that Newsweek should have found another source to confirm the story. |

Re: 15 dead... Newsweek says \" oops \"
The God-inspired Quran is about the same size as the God-inspired Bible. Most people have a Bible in their home (I have two because I'm so devout). Do a little experiment - take your Bible to the bathroom and toss it into the toilet. Now Flush. Does it go down the toilet? No. Some modifications to your Bible are obviously needed to facilitate the process of getting it down the toilet. What modifications are needed do you think? And remember, standard paper is hard to flush down a toilet - its not like toilet paper. But all this is no matter. Sacred texts are volatile in natural, in both a literary and a figurative sense – a highly combustible material, so to speak, in the minds of many. This incident simply shows, yet again, that 90% of the people in the world are morons. The sooner they are dead and squeegeed off the face of the planet the better.
This story does remind me of the character Indian Jenny in the book, Sometimes a Great Notion. If I recall correctly, she would go to the outhouse, where the bible was conveniently stored, and while releasing nature, read from it, and then tear out the recently read pages and use them to wipe her ass. Nuff said, methinks. Le Misanthrope |

Re: 15 dead... Newsweek says \" oops \"
Tripping Bily, Your concern for 15 dead civilians is touching.. which is why I searched your posts looking for similar feelings about the 700 Uzbekistanians who were killed by a government allied to the United States for protesting for democracy.
It is easy to blame a free press for reporting the truth, when simple self censorship may make our country look better and even be safer. But if we are, as we are claiming, trying to lead the world in spreading democracy, our cause is hurt by as Rumsfeld warned us today, "Having to be creful about what we say" and by supporting brutal despots like Karimov in Uzbekistan. I myself am also angry that America has lost an incredible amount of standing, and is losing it's ability to lead the world finacially, because the US press did not stand up and call Bush out on his lies about Iraq's immediate threat to to our country, but I don't blame the media...I try to blame the people who are actually responsible. When we have an attorney general that supports torture, these are the kinds of things that will happen. We either have to change our policy's towards torture and support of repressive regimes, or just buck up and realize that some people aint gonna like us, and anti-American anger is going to ferment in Muslim countries. Newsweeks fault? You're making me laugh. |

When we have an attorney general that supports torture, these are the kinds of things that will happen. [/ QUOTE ] The sad thing is the people who are outraged by this story typically are those who FULLY support this administration, seemed to have little objection to their desire to use torture... but suddenly get outraged if anyone would report this. If Bush got into hot water for personally beating Muslim children... they would not be outraged at Bush. They would be outraged at the press who reported the story. |

Re: 15 dead... Newsweek says \" oops \"
Our President said there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
He lied. 1600 Americans and tens of thousands of Iraqis are dead. I believe those responsible should be tried for treason and murder and put in their own electric chair in Texas. |
