Re: Full ring $200 party - rip my line apart
If i were gonna raise i guess it should be my usual preflop raise which is 3-5*BB. 4 should be enough to steal here.

Re: Full ring $200 party - rip my line apart
I would raise preflop to isolate the limper. He most likely has a small pocket pair or medium suited connectors. He'll fold when he misses and you'll take nice little pot while shutting out the people behind you. Also, even if he limped with something like A9s which dominates you, you'll win when you both miss if you raise. Particularly if the flop comes with a K or Q.
The way you played it, I would definitely raise the flop. On the turn a heart will kill your hand or action and if someone pairs their Ax>4 you will pay a lot. On the river, you will again not want to see a heart, someone's kicker, or to pair the turn card. On this particular flop, there is also a straight draw present for someone with 56s or 45s and a gutshot for any 2 or 5. You have to protect your hand by raising to shut out the blinds. If you flat call, you are giving them great odds and it won't be easy to get away from your hand on the turn. You have a good idea of what MP is likely to have (a weak ace or a draw that he is betting) so try to isolate him where you are unlikely to make a mistake. Don't let the blinds in cheaply. |
