The odds you're getting PF is still not good enough.

He's putting 1 SB into a pot of 9 with 1 more caller to come.

I mean, he's in CO, so him being in LP helps more, but Q8 is just about the worst hand I would call with here. It's close, but I fold PF

I have been going on by far the longest non-winning streak I’ve ever experienced ($1-$2). I think a lot of my problem is coming from being overly aggressive in the wrong spots. Like this hand;

Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

SB (49 hands), 26,2: UTG+1 (47 hands), 44,0: Button (76 hands), 26,6

Preflop: Hero is CO with 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Hero posts a blind of $1.
1 fold, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, 2 folds, Hero (poster) checks, Button calls, SB raises, 1 fold, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, Hero calls, Button calls.

[/ QUOTE ]
I fold this preflop.

Flop: (11 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB bets, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, Hero raises, Button calls, SB calls, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls.

I raise the flop thinking I probably have the best hand, but also to buy button and get a free river if the turn is bad.

[/ QUOTE ]
I think calling the flop and raising the turn on a card 8 or lower is also a strong option. Your flop raise only protects againt the button holding a single overcard.

Turn: (10.50 BB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB bets, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, Hero raises, Button calls, SB calls, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls.

I raise here thinking I still probably have the best hand and to try to punish the flush draws.

[/ QUOTE ]

"punish the flush draws"... bad, bad, bad! See Ed Miller's post here

[ QUOTE ]

River: (20.50 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB checks, UTG+1 checks, MP1 checks, Hero bets, Button raises, SB calls, UTG+1 calls, MP1 folds, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 28.50 BB

I bet the river still thinking I have the best hand. I go oh crap when Button raises and call because the pot is too big to fold for one more bet.

Am I just in a total chip spewing fest here or what?

[/ QUOTE ]

Hm.. I'm not too sure we want to be called if we do bet. I think with this board, there is a limited number of worse hands that call, so I might be more inclined to check behind here.

If I'm raising at all, it's because I think I have the best hand. In this game, there's a marginal chance I do have the best hand here. So, I raise. The pot is big.

I see, you want to do everything to win this big pot.

No, it's not about winning the pot. It's about winning money.

Call the turn.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why?

[/ QUOTE ]

Given the way the hand has played out so far, I think we probably just want to get to the showdown. If SB 3-bets we are going to have to call anyway to see the river when we could have just seen it for one bet.

If you're going to value-raise, wouldn't your chances of having the best hand have to be better than "marginal"?
