Thanks for the report. Two questions:

1) Is the max taken from the pot $5 or $6? (i.e. rake + "collection")

2) How were the games in general?

The max rake is a total of $6. The $1 player pool comes out of the small blind, regardless. Then, $2 of the max $5 true rake comes out on the initial round of betting. I did ask what would happen if it were folded around to the big blind (which never happened while I was there) and I was told only the $1 player pool would be taken.

I was seated at two different tables ($5 - $10 only) and I'd say I saw maybe 25 to 27 different players through the night. It was a blend of strong, aggressive players and calling stations with more loose-passives than tight-agressives. It was a rare flop that wasn't seen by five players or more, even facing one raise. I can only remember two or three hands that were capped pre-flop. A number of times a hand would go to a two player showdown with a board like A J 9 5 4 and the winner take it with a pair of nines and the loser would muck. I'd say the pot was won without a showdown less than 15% of the time. Players would call with obvious straights and flushes on board.

Now, a caveat -- I consider myself a poker player under construction, with only the framing up so far -- so, I don't consider myself to be the best reporter of poker play, but that's how I saw it.

thanks for the info Tex. I'm anxious to get up there and check things out myself. The no-smoking rule seems like a big bonus to me.

Got some more info. John "The Poker Hall Manager" sent me an email and said that they are only open from 6pm to 3am now due to staffing issues and are presently only running one shift. They do have a "shutdown" period from 5am to 8am when they will be shutdown once all shifts are full. He said as soon as they can hire more people they will extend the hours. Thanks for the report Tex. I have been waiting for one since it opened. I am planning to get up there within the next week. Now if only the Chocktaw casino in Durant would open up there poker room I'd be set.

Why anyone would want to play at this rip-off casino is beyond me. Max rake = $6? You have to be kidding me.

I like to play live just like anyone else, but call me if the rake drops. But it won't.

so the poker room isn't opened 24 hours? i'm guessing since there wasn't a no limit game it wasn't ridiculously packed. at least they waited until they had 15 tables unlike cherokee that opened with 8 tables and the first in the state with tables.

He's right man. There are too many good underground games around dallas with a reasonable rake to waste your time/money driving to OK.

Any timeframe on this? That would be ideal for me since I'll be about 30 minutes from there over the summer. Winstar isn't a bad drive (my sister works there) but that is a high rake. I thought $5 on a 2/4 (now 3/6) game at Thunderbird was considered high. I think my dad and one of his friends are going to ride over to Winstar tonight. Curious to see what he thinks of it. It will be his first B&M trip. He does just fine in his regular home game, but I'm afraid he'll be a donator. He plays too many hands.
