Re: What is the best way to Verbally declare a Raise??
I always say "raise 400 more" or "raise to 600" i think either the word "to" or "more" need to be included to make it descriptive enough.

Re: What is the best way to Verbally declare a Raise??
I guess I get the gist of the thread now....
"I raise 300, 500 straight." We use the "xyz straight" a lot in my game... "was that a raise of xyz?"... "no, now it's xyz straight." I guess the gay guys would want to say, "Now it's xyz queer." Not that there's anything wrong with that. |

Re: What is the best way to Verbally declare a Raise??
As long as you say raise, string bet is not a concern. The other player will know you're going to put it in there. They just have to wait to see how much. If you neglect to say "raise" beforhand and put out a stack, you will get slapped down if you go back to your stack for more chips.
This is the way I understand it, anyway. Perhaps there is more to it? |

Re: What is the best way to Verbally declare a Raise??
you are correct, "raise" gets it done.
In my first post, I wanted to point out the possible angle of saying "raise", then stacking and unstacking chips BEHIND the bet so you could guage an opponent's reaction. That's why I just make my raise out in the field with a bigass stack of chips, no angle. |

Re: What is the best way to Verbally declare a Raise??
I'm not particularly concerned with string bets or angling - most of the guys I play with are rigorously honest (and don't know what a string bet is).
I am concerned with confusion as to how much someone raised and confusion as to what the minimum raise is. -ptmusic |

Re: What is the best way to Verbally declare a Raise??
I prefer 'RAISE MOTHER B!TCHES!!!!.'
I usually say raise to x, that way there's no confusion. |

Re: What is the best way to Verbally declare a Raise??
I guess I'm a little different.
I declare a raise, then put the call amount in one stack, announcing that amount, then put the raise next to it, announcing that amount. For example: "Raise" (set call stack out)"Your 200" (set raise stack out) "plus 400 more" Then I'll look at the next player (if there is one) and say "That's xxx to you" where xxx is the amount they need to call (since it varies depending on the situation (did I raise, re-raise their bet, or whatever). I developed this habit from playing with people who don't always pay attention. |

"i see that bet," reach for chips and put them in "and i raise you, 400" then reach back for more chips then splash the pot
