Re: Flopped a straight, waiting till the turn to protect it...
[ QUOTE ]
I might just call it on a rainbow flop, but with the two spades out, I raise this every time. [/ QUOTE ] And I don't get this either. If you're raising to kick out a flush draw, you won't. If you're raising for value, great. But you should be raising for value every time. And if you're raising for value and for information, depending on only a flush draw to coldcall or call a bet here is unreliable. |

Re: Flopped a straight, waiting till the turn to protect it...
Charging the flush draw perhaps?
Seriously, being that if one other person calls the flush draw is EV neutral in putting money into the pot anyway (to say nothing of the preflop money), so the only reason might be to knock out the bd flush draw, which is, what, 4% to hit by the river? May as well let them call with overs drawing dead and a bd draw they don't have odds for rather than forcing them out. I raise the flop either way. No one's putting me on a straight, people love to call flop bets 1 or 2 at a time, they are shyer (I think) about calling turn bets and raises, and you're not protecting any better by waiting for the turn. May as well give everyone a chance to put in as much money as possible into a pot you're going to win a very large percentage of the time. |

Gutshots that are drawing to chop I want out of there as well, don't forget.

The pots small. A flop raise protects our hand quite well.
