man, don't flame him.. he had a bad night and vented on the 'net. He calmed down quite a bit in his second post on the subject.

it's not about the money, it's about the mental energy required to keep the sheep headed in the same direction... my game is much more enjoyable to host now when the regulars are here and the action just happens. I can go hours without prompting if it's all experienced players.

For a fun game, we use the rule "Ya gotta show if ya wanna win." Anybody who doesn't want the pot doesn't have to show their cards.

Here's what usually happens:
1. When the final call is made, somebody who thinks he's won will usually turn over his cards quickly.
2. If that doesn't happen right away, the dealer looks at the person called (first to bet the final amount) and says, "what ya got, Bud?" If nobody wants to show, then the callee must show first.
3. Once a hand is turned over, anybody else can muck their cards, muttering of they need to, if they aren't claiming the pot.
4. Anybody who thinks they can beat the hand on the table must show their cards. No show, no pot.
5. After a brief pause, dealer pushes the chips to the highest hand shown. If somebody objects, he better get his hand on the table ASAP. Pushing the chips usually gets the attention of anybody nursing his cards!

It's the dealer's responsibility to keep the game moving by step #2 and especially step #6.

I don't what is worse: your situation or mine. At my home games the people in the showdown like to play "guess what I have." I don't think they do it intentionally, but it happens quite frequently.

Lets just say player A and B make it to the show down on a board of Ac Kd 3s 4s Qs.
Player A(who bet and was called): Man, do you have the ace?
Player B: No, but aren't you betting the straight.
Player A: I don't have a striaght, but I could have swore you got the flush on the river after you said you didn't have aces.
Player B: No, I was afraid of the flush too.
Me: Guys just flip over your cards and stop guessing.
Player A: Oh, I have kings(flips over a king)
Player B: You win.(mucks)
Me: What is your other card, A?
Player A: why?
Me: Because you need to show it.(player A shows it.)
Next hand. Rinse, Lather, and repeat.

No flame intended, I was venting myself... I know perfectly well what it is like to play w/ people where you can just focus on your game vs. trying to do dealer duties on EVERY HAND (and pray someone doesn't flop another 3 cards at the turn). I think most of us have been there, but I guess after a while you just learn to deal with it. They're your friends - or friends of friends - in the end.

Sorry if I came off too strong btw, didn't mean it to come out that way. Just try to enjoy the game at home, CroShow, and put on your best game in casinos. I wish you success.

Wow, an apology for a very minor flame.

I think I like him.
