I've only recently made the jump to 3/6 and you're spot on with you're shark: fish ratio. You have to be MUCH more selective about tables at 3/6. You really only need 2 bad players to make a table good, and if I can't find a bunch of loose passive then I'll gladly sit with sharks so long as I have those 2 bad players. But when the table goes bad get out of there. I'll even, gasp, only play 2 tables of 3/6 if I can't find 2 other good ones, or if an old friend is playing the 2/4.

I'm starting to wonder if 3/6 is just incredibly hard on Party. I beat 2/4 for 4BB/100. I lose nearly that at 3/6, yet my PokerTracker stats in every category are almost exactly identical. I'm absolutely baffled and frustrated at this point (10k hands at 3/6 now).

Is there any merit in skipping 3/6 and playing 5/10? I've played 4/8 at Prima and had no problems. Wondering at this point if there's just something peculiar about the play at party 3/6?

I have found (25K at 2/4, 40K at 3/6) that 3/6 is significantly harder. I have yet to play 5/10, but word on the street is that it is worse. I think moving to 5/10 would be a huge mistake. Also, a 10K hand downswing is not uncommon.

What he said. Opponent reads are crucial at Party 3/6 these days, and if you don't have an extensive database & buddy list, you're going to struggle. You also have to get used to the more aggressive playing style (especially when it comes to blind steals/defenses), and learn to have much more respect for a turn raise.

All that having been said, you beat 2/4 handily, and your 3/6 sample size isn't that big. Barring additional evidence to the contrary, I would agree that you're probably just running cold. However, be very critical of your 3/6 play right now--prolonged downswings, especially right after you move up, can lead to very sloppy/passive play. That will only further your problems, obviously.

Yea, it was a stupid idea. Frustrating talking. Good to have somewhere to tell me to put my head on straight

I know some folks manage decent rates at high levels. Tought to imagine how, seems like you'd have all sharks just pushing chips back and forth and the house raking in. As with all levels though, I suppose I'll understand if I get there.

I have about 40k hands at 2/4, so that's reasonably set. Maybe a bit high if I've had particularly good luck.

I've seen 100k hand samples with 1 BB/100 differences in win rate. So I stand by my first statement.

Not all sharks are created equal. And I'm sure there are some players who play at higher limits that simply practice outstanding game selection.
