Re: Running the bluff at 2/4 (not a pity post)
I don't understand how playing short-handed where people are more likely to be more aggressive with more marginal hands that can't take a lot of heat should make you LESS likely to 3-bet hands. I would think that short-handed, say I open raise in the CO with AJ and the BN re-raises me. I think this might be a good time to 3-bet. He could easily be raising me with a wide range of hands since my position is one of a potential steal. If he is really only going to call a 3-bet with AA/KK then this has got to be EV+. No?

Re: Running the bluff at 2/4 (not a pity post)
That was the idea of my post. That 3-betting frequency should increase at short-handed tables, just cause his range of re-raising hands is much higher. He's much more likely to put you on a steal etc.
AJ is a bad example though because that's getting awfully committed out of position with a weak hand. I don't really like the idea of ever 3-betting out of position when there's still money left to put in. |

Re: Running the bluff at 2/4 (not a pity post)
AJ is a good example. The fact that you are holding an ace makes it less likely for him to have AA. Ideally, you want him to fold. If he doesn't fold, you at least have a chance of hitting an ace on the flop to beat his KK-JJ.

Re: Running the bluff at 2/4 (not a pity post)
i think you may need to think about this in the context of the type of players i feel soah might be playing against. namely lots of ABC weak-tighties with the occasional mega-donk. if the weakies aren't repopping with anything less than AA/KK/QQ/AK and won't call a 3bet without such hands, then i can totally see no 3betting KK, especially given the fact that soah probably has a pretty tight table image from the hands i've seen him post.

Re: Running the bluff at 2/4 (not a pity post)
As usual, you are correct.
Obviously though I take all of the circumstances into consideration and sometimes threebetting is the right play for me. Hell, a few weeks ago I posted a hand where I fourbet all-in with AJo against a maniac. |
