I think this was a compliment...

One of my first times playing live... about 45 minutes into the session, a really good player sitting near me asks me if I'm from around here. I say yes, and he replies "So then you've played a lot online."

you sure bout that? in my case the player talking to me was the best of all the other players sitting at the table, and was sitting directly to my left

he was actually capable of raising and folding in the same betting round, something these other monkeys wouldn't dream of

Edit: okay maybe I just made more of a case for stealing off him, but how could I bluff this guy when I have 6 other calling stations at the table?

How about: "I try to only play suited Aces."

Not at all. What I initially told him was the truth, although something compelled him to keep badgering me to admit that I play for a living. So I just said yes so he would leave me alone. Although I am lucky to be one of the few players there that really enjoy the game AND make a modest monthly income. In my opinion, for me to live comfortably playing full-time, I would have to be beating the 20/40 game consistently. For now, the 9/18 is just fine.

So I'm playing in this same game again today, everyone is just arriving at the table and a major fish sits down, asking about how you make your best 5 card hand if you have to use both hole cards etc.

and then this other dude at the table who i've never seen before points to me and says "watch out for this guy, this guy cleaned us all out for a grand each, we all had to rebuy"

of course he was kidding, but the fish seemed to believe him

ugh
