I've been spooked before and it wasn't a racist sneer in any way. It might have occured on Holloween.

Given the flop action, I think a bet here is suspect and just gonna cost you. I doubt you get a better hand to lay down, and you don't have many outs and are out of position if you are behind and get called. You hate a raise, so I would check and make my decision after them, where YOU may be the one throwing in a fancy raise after making your read and if you decide to continue.

Turn: 3. Should I take a stab at the pot?

No, it's a trap. There's a decent chance you have no outs.

"Turn: 3. Should I take a stab at the pot?"

Very feel dependent for me. The way I like to play spots like that is to go ahead and check again on the turn, and if there is a bet, I try to work it so that if I'm beat, I fold, and if I'm not beat, I stay in. That's the plan anyway. Good to have a plan I think.

Lots of times just calling on the turn there will get me a free showdown when I have the best hand because anytime nobody has much with a board like that, everybody is scared, especially the guy who got called after stabbing on the turn. It's really tough for some guys to fire that last barrel on the river with nothing into a board like that after I clunkcall the turn and autocheck the river. This is one of those times when checking monsters and inducing bluffs other times earns me a whole pot this time.

Plus I'm still in there in case a nine comes on the river.

Tommy

the only definition of 'spook' i know is the racist one: same as the n-word

They also refer to members of the CIA and other clandenstine organizations as "spooks".

hmmmmmmm...... I've heard rumors that on of the 1-2 regulars at Bay101 is Al-Qaeda. Maybe that's who Ray was referring to.

I haven't read all the responses, but I would never lead on the turn with this. I don't see how it could be good, and if anyone had a hand you could beat (a straight draw or something), I would have to think they would have bet the flop.

Smells like a trap. Muck it.

p.s. I would lead on the flop here. if raised, you can call and safely muck on the turn if you dont improve. if they raise your flop bet and bet the turn and you would have ended up winning (ie, the 99 was good), you will make a fortune in this game and I wouldnt worry about it.

The question isn't "what is a spook" but "who is a spook?" This guy always seems to wake up with a winning hand, no matter what the situation. It's kind of like he's a ghost.
