Re: Poker Cruises?
Hey NJchick,
I'm currently trying to convince my wife to go on the December cruise. It's been alot of work, but I'm almost there. I have a couple of questions for you: 1. What are the hours of the poker room? Does it keep the same hours as the casino on the ship? 2. They advertise private parties, gifts, and seminars. How was the party, what was the gift, and how was the seminar? 3. If my wife played, she'd only be interested in micro limit stuff (1-2). Do they spread a game that low on the cruise. Thanks for the info. Maybe we'll meet up on the boat? Re: Poker Cruises?
1. When I went in '03, the poker room was open while at sea, closed while in port.
2. Party was awesome (open bar, good food); gift was tacky (t-shirts and totebags--but would could you expect?); and seminar was held before I ever thought about getting out of bed (hung over from open bar). 3. My wife played some 1-2 limit. Very steep drop (collect $1 from the button, drop it, then take 10% $4 max), but no one plays that game for very long, and the pots stay small, because everyone is checking. They also had a $2-4 game, with a more reasonable drop (10%, $4 max). I agree whole-heartedly with NJChick's review. Lots of fun, good action, professionally run room--not to mention it's a freaking CRUISE, and all that entails. But the best part: imagine a non-smoking poker room, where all the miserable, grumpy, and smelly people were evicted, and all the players are smiling and friendly. It's got to be what the poker games in heaven are like. I can't wait to go on another one. |

Re: Poker Cruises?
Hi Joe -
I see Youtalkfunny (another poster) answered alot of your questions already. All of which are very true. On our cruise we had welcome cocktail reception with free drinks and finger food and on the last night we had a toga party. Poker room is open pretty much the minute you get into international waters. Stays open until you get into port. And remains closed until you get out into the water again. The gift bag was indeed pretty generic. I got a totebag filled with tee-shirt, fanny pack, sunglasses with the Card Player Logo. I actually used to wear my tee shirt alot when playing in AC and I usually got a lot of questions from other players about the crusies. In fact this woman I once played in actually went on one of the cruises after speaking to me about them . (Great free advertising). They do spread a small stakes 1-2 game for beginners. Plus they offer free instructions personally taught by Jan and Linda. I think thats a great added bonus. If I do plan on going this year I will let you know! NJC |

Re: Poker Cruises?
Thanks to both you and NJchick for the great info. I've actually printed the thread for future use. Hopefully, she'll agree to go and we'll have a great time.
Thanks again for the info. NJchick, if you do end up booking the trip, PM me and let me know. I'll do the same. Joe |

Re: Poker Cruises? -- UPDATE
[ QUOTE ]
I might go on the Dec trip btw. [/ QUOTE ] I did it! I miraculously convinced the Mrs to go on the December cruise today. After months of pushing, she finally caved in. It also helped that she's on a miserable business trip in Pittsburgh this week! Looks like there's a trip report in my future. Joe |
