If you can get HU with the maniac on most hands, then you can indeed raise more liberally. But you cannot be raising any pair and any A if you have multi-way flops on most hands, you will likely be ahead of maniac but will find it very hard to play against 3 with low pairs and Ace no kicker. Standard stuff really.
