I'll have to think about it, though... a lot of people didn't like my flop check raise. I figured that I played it like unimproved overcards, until I raised. [/ QUOTE ] This last part makes no sense to me. |

I would probably just lead out and bet on the flop, but I can see how w/ the pot as big as it is that going for a check raise might get more people to drop. I would also 3-bet this turn as you did. I think we see AQ here far more than QQ or KT (PF raise and all) not to get an extra bet in. If capped, then I'll make a crying call on the river, fully expecting to see QQ.

Flop:
Please help me out guys. I haven't got a bloody clue as to what hands I should be protecting on what boards and therefore when to try for a checkraise. Turn: If I'm behind to a set, it's to 99 or 66, based on the PF action. Vs. 2pr, I have a bunch of outs. I'm actually more worried about QJ than any other hand, in terms of what's likely to beat me. Vs 99, 66, I'm in trouble, but the LAA guy doesn't have either of those hands: he'd'a been all over me. The CO is calling. I can only presume this means he hasn't hit his straight, though it might be bottom straight. He could have a set or two pair though. Both of the straights are really weird hands for MP to have after a pfr, so I nailed him with the raise. Edit: I have 4 outs to fill a straight too... though I should expect less than that due to the action. |

[/ QUOTE ] You want to protect hands that are likely best but are vulnerable to what your opponent's may have. You have an overpair here that is very likely best but can be beat. You want to bet for value and hope that MP2 raises and protects your hands from some draws. |

I'm going to bump this thread because it was late evening when I posted it.
--- A lot of people don't like the flop check raise. That's pretty fair. I really like my turn 3-bet. A buddy of mine said that if I wasn't intending to fold to a cap (which I couldn't do because of my outs), then I definitely should have called down. I'm not sure why this would be true. Any assistance on this concept or on the turn bet (because I know the flop check was bad!) would be helpful. Sincerely, CaptainParenthesis. |
