Re: Getting bored in B&M poker rooms
[ QUOTE ]
What do you guys do to keep yourself focused, or do you just leave and wander around? [/ QUOTE ] You can't focus if you don't care so find a way to care more. The way I see it you can either care because you are greedy or because you enjoy the challenge. Since you didn't mind losing $900 of profit too much, I'm guessing greed isn't going to do the trick. That leaves the challenge . . . I find just playing to win the maximum is a great challenge. Then even if I'm winning I have something to occupy my mind because I probably could have won *more*. I have a reason to study everyone else and their patterns, etc. But I know some people who are better motivated by taking the game a little more personally. If a guy with a stupid hat sits down then decide to ruin him. Teach the table coach a lesson (with your play, not your mouth). I don't think this option is as good because you still need to make rational decisions and could easily put yourself on tilt, but if you really need a way to keep your focus, this might work. If this doesn't work then I think your best play is just to leave. Playing without an edge is just like playing the slots. |

Re: Getting bored in B&M poker rooms
Since I started playing full time this happens to me too, I am so used to playing 2-3 tables while surfing the web that live can be soooo damn slow. I still like it when at a fun table, but when nobody is talking it can really become a grind..... As for playing bad hands..... well, I wouldnt call them bad, just creative

[ QUOTE ] If it was online, I would just close the window, but in a casino my buddies still wanted to play. [/ QUOTE ] Don't bring your buddies to a casino. When you are bored go home. Re: Getting bored in B&M poker rooms
during the first hour I wouldn't call a raise with KQ suited! During the last hour, I barely looked at my cards before betting.
I think we have all been there. mucking 20 hands in a row IS boring. suddenly K8s UTG looks good enough.... the other night, I found myself honestly thinking: 'well I have sh_t... but I do have 2 back door draws.... maybe I should take one off....' ------- I mucked it but boredom is a problem for me during hour 4. Just get up and leave. |

Re: Getting bored in B&M poker rooms
I have really found that my game really breaks down about 3 1/2 hours into a live game. That is the point where I start bleeding chips and have to get up, take a walk, and refocus. It is funny how consistently this happens at abou 3 1/2 - 4 hours for me.

Re: Getting bored in B&M poker rooms
Very nice post.
Focus (or lack of) can be the difference between winning and losing when playing live. In contrast, I dont know how these guys play 8+ tables on the net when they miss what transpired for most of a hand. These players will say they dont miss a single beat but its very hard for me to believe. FYI, I tried 2 tables once...'zzzzzz'...'zzzzzz' was a common theme in the chat box.
