Shajen,

The accident was, now that I think about it, at least 5 years ago.

My insurer is American Family Insurance.

I appreciate your help

Hey no worries. Since the accident was more than 3 years ago, you should be just fine. I am not an insurance adjustor or anything, but if your insurance goes up more than a few bucks a month after years of clean driving, I'd be tempted to switch companies.

Do you plan on paying the fee or are you going to go to court for it?

If you take the court route, chances are the issuing officer won't show. If they do show, you will have options available like a defensive driving course in lieu of points off your license, etc.

No worries man, you're not gonna get reamed.

My experience is that it is no more than 50% that the officer will show up for court if you plead not guilty. There are ways to fight this Pro Se. If you have the time to appear and plead not guilty it is worthwhile, but it depends on local procedures. When I lived in Ohio you had a scheduled time to show up and could be out in under an hour. In Mississippi I went to court adn kept me there all days with multiple offers of being able to leave if I wanted to plead guilty.

Don't know where you live, but in Kansas you can double the fine and the ticket does not appear on your driving record. If you want to be really safe this may be an option.
