Sorry, I should've made clear that I would mix up my limping and raising when against an observant opponent; not just raise the good, limp the decent, and fold the meek.
If an observant opponent notices that you're always raising or folding, he will be 3-betting you alot preflop when you're holding hands you really don't want to be 3-bet against. For example, you would probably raise Q6o preflop if you were adhering to a raise-or-fold strategy. If your observant opponent has a hand like K9o, he will probably 3-bet you since he knows you are raising extremely light. On the other hand, if you were sprucing your play up with some calling as well, he would respect your raise more and may only call with his K9o and fold the flop if he doesn't improve.
