Correct. Sometimes it seems like when someone hears the term "check-raise" they associate it with an automatic pot-building move. I checked then raised a bettor so I got more money in the pot than if I just bet right? Not necessarily. Sometimes check-raising is about pot-building, sometimes it's about protecting. Knowing which is which is hugely important.
