Re: SSH VS Winning Low Limit by Lee Jones
In many ways, this whole question is like comparing apples to oranges. When you come down to it, the books are written for different audiences.
WLLH is a beginner's book, SSH is an advanced book (well maybe advanced intermediate). What kind of poker player are you? Are you a casual player, maybe a home game a couple of times a month. Occasional on-line play. Go to the casino once or twice a year? If so, are you going to put in the time to learn SSH? Do you want to take poker seriously and invest the time to learn to be the best player at the low-stakes games that you can be? If so, you probably will be disappointed with WLLH. The overwhelming consensus here is that SSH is the better book, BUT you have to put the time in to really understand the concepts. SSH is not the book that you can run out and buy to read on your flight to Vegas. Seriously, I feel that if you apply the concepts in this book haphazardly and without understanding them, you'll be a -ev player. That being said -- I would recommend WLLH for someone who has played a bit, and feels that they want to get better NOW. It's easy to read, and easy to understand, and easy to follow. I think I've even read posts from Mason admitting that the Second Edition is a good beginners book. Anyway, the short answer -- if you're willing to put the time in, get SSH. If not, you're probably better off with WLLH. |
