I would assume that if said money had changed hands, agreements may have been signed keeping MS from confirming or denying such transactions.

Why would he have been in a bad spot? I'm sure the winning bidder would have had is money refunded if the tourney was sold out.

I know everyone does this, but could selling shares of oneself in a tournament violate laws regarding sale of unregistered securities in the US?

Unless MS is screwing around in this thread, I'd assume he did get something back in return for not squeaking about dutch any more. I guess MS wants to make sure he has a best chance of getting the rest.
