My guess is that this person has only played online, and not in an actual casino. [/ QUOTE ] Could you explain what you mean by this? Is this in reference to the skill level of the opponents? |

When I first got your book, I wasn't very happy with it either. It really messed with my comfort zone, raised up my variance, made me have to gamble, all kinds of uncomfortable things.
Weak tight is kinda nice, safe like, ya know? No giant wins, no giant losses, comfortable-like. I put the damn thing away for a while but you can't put the genie back in the bottle. I started noticing leaks in my game that I never saw before. I had to get the damn thing out again and start studying. Now I win more but my swings are much bigger and its your fault, Ed Miller. |

I just want to thank everybody, including Ed Miller himself, who responded to my first post on this forum. IMO his timely reply just goes to show he is interested in what people have to say about his book and is not afraid to stand behind it. steamboatin's post was amusing but at the same time made me think, great reply!

How reassuring it is to see proof that poker is such a complex and subtle game that even reasonably intelligent people don't have a clue and have so much mistaken conviction in their abilities.

Is this in reference to the skill level of the opponents? [/ QUOTE ] Basically, yes. Online the games at "small stakes" are generally tighter than in an actual casino. If the reviewer has only played online, they probably don't feel people are loose enough to apply all of Ed's concepts. I agree to a certain extent. There are certain plays and raises in the book that I wouldn't use in certain online SS games. But at the local casino, it's dead on. You really do find players like the kind Ed describes in B&M casinos. Mostly I think because playing online takes some intent and effort. You have to download a program, put money in, etc. But in real casinos, you have people who just wander in off the main floor and want to try poker, businessmen who are there to blow off some steam after work, etc. I'd bet that in your average $2/$4 game in a casino, there's probably an average of at least one player at any given time who has never even played the game before, besides seeing it on TV. |

[/ QUOTE ] I agree about the casino play level issue. I have only played poker in a casino a couple times. I remember that there were people who had never played hold'em before. One guy had to sit by the dealer and she basically had to do everything for him. I think it would be interesting to hear what SSH plays you don't think would work in certain (tighter?) online games. Since everyone says that SSH is the definitive work, and since I would guess most 2+2ers are online players, a discussion of this would be informative. |

It is written for loose games. Not all Small Stakes games are loose and higher stakes are not always tight. You use SSH when you have six or more to a flop and HEFAP when the game is tighter, regardless of the stakes.

Anybody the book he refers to: Stepping Up by Burgess? [/ QUOTE ] I was also wondering about this book. Personally, this is the first time I've ever heard of it. Can anyone recommend it? |
