Re: Backers, please?
He seems like a good kid and I hope he appreciates the time you took to write this - Really a nice post. Sort of refreshing to hear a non-smartass reply to one of these.

Re: Backers, please?
that post is the only post he needs to read...
and really, after only 6 months, how can you be proficient at all the games...especially going to college at the same time? do what i did...i started just over a year ago with play money to learn the game (cuz i was a complete newbie to poker/hold'em)...then i made a $25 deposit and set goals to move up in limits....this way, you can gain invaluable experience as you start to risk more money...... I spent a lot of hours at play/low limit NL games but it was the only way to do things for me; I finished school a year before I started the poker thing and I had student loans and not much money. Now I have a big enough bankroll to play the $500 NL game at the casino here, as well as multitabling $100-200 games online. And since last July its my sole source of income. Now, maybe for you, you don't need to start at play money level. But if you honestly don't have the bankroll for a 30-60 game, then play at a lower limit and work your way up. |

Re: Backers, please?
getting a backer is near impossible. you need to be an established player who spent his bankroll on heart surgery for his sister. noone is going to ship you money over the internet without knowing who you are in person. if you really want to pursue getting a backer then go to a local casino and try and prove yourself. however, this is going to be pretty pointless as it almost certainly wont work. i dont mean to brag, but i am a very winning player playing for a living and everyone at my local casino knows it, yet noone has offered to back me for any game whatsoever. backing players is one of the bigger leaks that successful poker players have and therefore people refrain from doing it. i have yet to back anyone myself. the problem with backing people is that only 10% of players are winning players, and only 1% of players have potential to go pro. there is alot more involved with being a winning player than natural talent. psychlogical makeup represents about 99% of potential. take the advice of most of the posters here and start multitabling online while working a job in real life. if you are as good as you think you are you should be able to build up a bankroll in no time and make things happen on your own. great things never happen over night.

Re: Backers, please?
Yeah, so I've taken a lot of heat for these posts, which, were by my own admition more than a bit overkilled. I should've chosen one area and stuck to it. The sarcastic responses were hilarious, most of them anyway. The flames were well-desrved, and the advice was both helpful and insightful. Re-reading my post, it is so over-the-top and emotion driven I laughed out loud. I'm sorry I subjected all of you to this, but I really have learned some things about backers, etc. Since I don't have any stats on myself, I will get a crappy job and continue to play low-limits and increase my bankroll.
I am cross-posting this to help you all understand that I understand how annoying this was. I'm sorry, won't happen again. By the way...let it be known that I would never back up a 2+2er that made this post. Ever. hahaha Oops. |
