Re: Barry G\'s motivation for publishing his book
Barry's said he will not give profits on his book to charity.
And Barry won't be losing money by publishing his book, because A) Barry is already beating the biggest games, and B) This book alone will not ascend any high limit players to BG's cash game. |

Re: Barry G\'s motivation for publishing his book
He already has as much money as he could ever want and now wants to share his knowledge (and maybe boost his ego a little in the process.)
He is already rich, he may as well try to improve his reputation among the best poker players of all time. I don't blame him. I would do the same thing if i was him Just my two cents. |

Re: Barry G\'s motivation for publishing his book
I don't have any real idea, but these three things I can guess:
a) Writing a book about something you are an expert in is probably a fulfilling experience for just about anyone. It would probably be fun and you would get a lot of satisfaction from the positive feedback. b) Poker is getting big enough now where establishing yourself as one of its stars is worth a lot. c) Barry would love it if a whole new wave of players stepped up and tried to win at the ultra-high limit games. |

[ QUOTE ]
Well I'm sure he won't make that much from the book. My point was he is not writing this book for money. [/ QUOTE ] We don't really know this. The only reason any of us think of Mr. Greenstein as a charitable guy, is because of the WPT. I'm not saying you're wrong; rather, that we have no way of knowing his motivation for writing a book. Barry is such a charitable, nice guy, it just seems like he wouldn't be writing a poker book to "get his name out and prove himself to other players". |

Hell not many people play 10k tournaments and love to read, talk and gossip about them so his book maybe bought by others also. |

Re: Barry G\'s motivation for publishing his book
Without knowing the content of the book I can't even engage in educated speculation but one possible motivation is that Barry is trying to correct what he percieves as common misperceptions about tournament poker and the big cash game poker games that he plays in regularly which are virtually a black hole to outsiders. Barry has been very forthright in his opinion that the best cash game players not only make more $ than tournament players but are more skilled as well but it's the tournaments and the tournament specialists that have recieved most of the media attention in the current poker boom. I seriously doubt for example that Barry uses the # of WSOP bracelets as a significant yardstick while most of Phil Hellmouth's legions of fans insist that is the only valid one. Personally I'd rather play against Phil than Barry any day.
