Interesting to see that there is a wide range of opinion on this poll. Maybe it was affected by my more detailed description of the open raiser in a later post, but it confirms to me that these are all fairly close plays depending on the raiser and game conditions. In truth these hands did not all come from the same game, they are just situations that I've faced or thought about recently. That is why I started with a vague description of MP. I was looking for a default correct play, but it seems that once again like with many things in poker ..."it depends". Anyway, here's how I voted : KQs fold AJs fold 99 raise If I could expect a multiway pot I could see a case for calling with any of these hands. Since the game is a bit tighter with not many big multiway pots, calling seems wrong to me, so I was looking at all three of these hands as "raise or fold" situations. I figured with KQs and AJs, there is a high risk of domination and no multiway action so I would lean towards a fold. With 99, I think it's about 50/50 or better that I have the best hand (preflop raiser has: AA, KK, QQ, JJ, TT = 30 ways. AK, AQ=32 ways), and he will let me know if I don't. A raise is likely to get it heads up, and with position I think I can get away or lose the least if the board appears scary. |

[/ QUOTE ] but the domination would be easy to notice if he indeed needs top pair to continue...thats why i like calling with position especially as the hand can handle more callers coming in from behind... but if this is a "general" tight aggressive player then i'd fold fold raise as well.. -Barron |

Re: Quick Preflop check
Based on game description, I am assuming that I will bet last on future rounds.
Fold KQs- suited does not matter here since pot will not be multi way and game is not passive. KQ very dominated. Fold AJs- same reason as above Call 99- Take a look at flop and use positional advantage. Let him bet into me if flop med to low. Fold on turn if A high and he keeps betting |
