Default Which play is worse?

Full $15-30 game at AJ's. Soft and honest. I was on the button. Everyone limped. I had 94o and folded.

The only reason I folded is because a couple weeks ago I put "calling any amount before the flop from any seat preflop with 10-5o or worse" in my poison file, right along with "going all-in" and "cheesecake orgies." No longer optional. Otherwise I would have called the 94 for sure.

But with the same hand, 94o, in the big blind, if there's a raise, I fold, and always have, and always will, no matter how many players or who. In other words, the recent poison adjustment had no effect on how I play the 94 from the BB, but it did change how I play it from the button (and from the SB).

And it got me wondering what you all think about something:

All things being equal, compare these two plays:

1) Full game. You have 94o in the big blind. UTG raises. Everyone calls two cold. You fold.

2) Full game. You have 94o on the button. Everyone limps. The blinds will only raise with really big pairs and maybe AK and AQ. You fold.

Which play is worse? (Or better. However you want to look at it.) Leaving aside which play may or may not actually be correct, just rate the plays to each other. (In other words, if both folds are mistakes, then which one is worser?)

I think it's worse to call a raise from the BB with 9-4 than to call with it on the button after everyone limps, even though the pot is twice as big when calling from the blind, and even though calling from the blind is a guarenteed last action.

What say you?

Tommy
