Perhaps the heat has gone to your head, Andy;-)
He said the party must drop those things. That does not equate to saying all Democrats, or all Democrat opponents, believe those things, or are doing those things (however, a significant portion of them do). The party as a whole needs to drop or lessen its emphasis on those things and tactics--if it wants to acquire greater mainstream support. The vote for Kerry this time was largely a vote against Bush IMO--the principal tenets of the Democrat platform are, as Dynasty said, based on the New Deal/Great Society, and the tactics employed to promote this outmoded creed are increasingly the rhetoric of class-warfare and race baiting. Without the ABB vote this time around, I believe the Democrats would have had far fewer votes. The Dem Party is actually not the party of no ideas; it is the party of outmoded ideas. But the party does give too much voice to the class-warfare demagogues and race baiters. I don't believe most of the poor or lower-middle class today give a damn about the class-warfare rhetoric. They just want to get on with their lives and eventually buy a home, etc. Yet the Kerry's and Moore's and a whole host of others are constantly harping on the class-warfare canard. By the way it is noteworthy that ALL of those we see so harping, are wealthy to the point where income tax rates will never seriously affect their lifestyles (Kerry, Kennedy, Edwards, Moore). In short the Dem party is decades behind the times ideologically, and is replaying the themes of the past which no longer resonate with most Americans (and no longer resonate for good reason, too--they simply don't work). |

[ QUOTE ]
He said all they have to do to be successful is to drop those things, so he must think they believe them. I said that if the Republicans believe this of the Democrats, and express their viewpoints in the same language, it will be good for the Democrats. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, many individuals in the Democrat leadership not only think those things, they promulgate them vociferously. (Did you NOT see the convention? They had speakers who were still going on about 40 ACRES AND A MULE for gods' sake! If that's not racebaiting class-warfare rhetoric what is?) Also, I'm not a republican and I have never voted republican. But the democrats are screwed if they don't get off their socialist, race-baiting, class-warfare track. It doesn't sell because it fails to grasp reality. And they really need to back off the one world government track because nobody supports it, not even most democrat voters. And yes, they could also use some basic education about econ. Kerry was spouting on about minimum wage when anyone who knows anything about economics knows that minimum wage laws only serve to price out the lowest skilled workers. Minimum wage screws the very people it purports to help. Yes, Kerry (and the Dem leadership) needs a lesson on economics. natedogg |

This is common knowledge, I don't know how the Democratic leadership could not know that. They use it to buy the votes of teh minimum wage worker that doesn't understand he is being priced out of the market. I would suggest Out of Work by Richard Vedder and Lowell Galloway for a good discussion of employment issues. RR |
