The Advantage is actually pretty awesome, along with some similar bands such as The Minibosses & Chromelodeon. Don't listen to Molly Hatchet.

I usually end up listening to Journey/Foreigner/Kansas/Boston etc.

The advantage owns.

My favorite music for poker is some old bebop, some Charlie Parker, Dizzy (?) Gillespie, etc. It just fits the smoky cardroom, gambling atmosphere. If it's intensity you want, you can't do better than Rage Against The Machine. Greatest band of all time. Oh, and if you're into hip-hop at all check out "Innercity Griots" by Freestyle Fellowship.

I like trip-hop for poker... Portishead's Dummy is my favorite album to put on.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wow, never thought I'd find another Portishead/trip-hop fan on a poker board. I would actually follow up "Dummy" with Hooverphonic's first album and maybe the first Garbage to set a harder edge on the evening.

Other mental iPod playlists for poker:

* Rat Pack era medley
* Late 70s/early 80s punk and lots of it
* Late 90s drum'n'bass (also good for late-night first-person shooter network bloodfests)
* Dunno if any of you folks are in the NYC area and/or listen to WFMU online or on the air (91.1, wfmu.org), but Music to Spazz By and Fool's Paradise would also be good mood music for a sleazy night of cards.

Recently in my home game, though, it's been baseball -- Yankees rise and fall -- which at least had the effect of defocusing my opponents (football for me!).

I always play blues music...Muddy Waters, BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc...but I live in Mississippi (heart of the Blues) so it makes sense here

if I need something different, I'll put in Widespread Panic, Pink Floyd, or something like that

Apparently no one is with me on this one, but I like to listen to some straight-up gangsta sh*t when I play poker... It helps keep me aggressive (I'm pretty timid). And who knows, if your opponents are already too aggressive in the first place, this could work out incredibly for you. So anyway... I listen to Dr. Dre, ODB ("Got Your Money"), and G-Unit when I play.

O.A.R. - Crazy Game of Poker. Just put it on repeat, gets me pumped!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Remind me never to play at your home game.. ever.

I'm a fan of downtempo, funk, and soul/jam/jazz like thievery corp, soulive, john scofield.. Instrumental stuff preferred. Anything that isn't too loud or distracting, basically.
