I would just call, you're not going to thin the field with a raise and you probably are going to need to get lucky to have your hand hold up.

Having checked the flop, you should raise.

After the flop check you should raise and bet the turn if a blank falls. I think that this will maximize one's chance of winning. You won't thin the field on the flop but reasonable players will fold on the turn if you have them beat. If you don't then be prepared to fold to a river bet.

Bet the flop. Given that you checked, just call. Depending on the turn, you can bet, check-fold, or check-raise.

Ok, I made a mistake in the preflop description. UTG did not open raise, UTG limped and someone in MP raised, a few people coldcall and the few that had limped before called. UTG then bet out the flop.

Anways not wanting to end up getting capped on the flop, I felt that calling the flop was the best play as there is a lot of money and I hope to have five good outs.

The turn comes 9c. I bet out, UTG calls MP (preflop raiser)raises fold fold LP calls two cold, now what?

Given the fact that you checked, I would just call here. Nice pot odds, but im 99% sure you're beat here. Someone probobly has you out-kickered, a set, two pair, or a hand with some outs. Unless another 8 or J comes on the turn, Id lay it down probobly.

trying to cr the pfr here only works if you have a big draw or a made hand. pair of eights with a jack isnt quite the same. what happens when a queen comes on the turn, do you lead out or just call down? you made this hand hard on yourself. id lead the flop and if the utg raiser raises you, you are in much better position to have your eights hold up.

Hi Tstone,

If the scenario had it so that everyone checked to the last position player who bets, then I would C/R to protect my top pair - somewhat decent kicker. I would try and chase out those overcard draws and hopefully...hopefully get it HU with the late position better. As for the turn, I will fire a bet no matter what comes down. It's a much better play than just check-calling a scare card that falls.

If their are callers still in between, then obviously the play will be different if a scare card comes down.

Another useful post with absolutely no proof/evidence to suggest why.

Since multiple posters had already invented the wheel, I saw no reason to reinvent it.
