Re: Can I get away playing top pair this way?
[ QUOTE ]
Kx should fold pre-flop [/ QUOTE ] Sorry, I ment Kx should fold after your flop-raise (if not before the flop). Thinking of it MP1 is faced to 10 - 1 pot odds which gives him odds close to call K paired rag, so that would actually be a reasonable hand. Maybe the river call was better than a raise after all... |

Well that was the second time I confused 'pre-flop' and 'on the flop' in the same post. Sorry about that!

Re: Can I get away playing top pair this way?
Well, I feel better knowing that I played this pretty well. I had know idea what CO had. Whatever it was I thought is was a mistake for him to stay in. I had MP1 on Kx, but I didn't raise because I was leery of Kx with x pairing the board. Turns out I was right about Kx, but it ended up being KK. Thems the breaks huh? At least I played it right.

MP1 butchered this (and saved you at least 3BB).
Stick him on your buddy list dude. |

Re: Can I get away playing top pair this way?
I'm not so sure about the raise on the flop. Normally, I'd say it was a beautiful play. Nice way to protect your hand. But in this case, the pot is so huge that the first cold caller would be getting 8.5-1 on thier call. There are lots of hands that would be correct to call 2 cold in this case. Moreover, after the first one calls, the odds get even better (for the callers), making your raise even less effective. So your protection raise is made a little lame becasue the pot is so big.
This play is close, and it depends totally on your read of the rest of thie field. But in general, with the pot status as it is, I think the straight-line play is to wait for the turn to raise for protection, where the bets are bigger. I would have just called the flop bet. |
