I'm more interested in knowing if Matusow exploded or not. Just me.

[/ QUOTE ]

According to the blog at one point the counts were:

Layne -- 1.4M
Eric -- 1.25M
Mike -- 4.8M

Whether his taking third involved a meltdown or not I couldn't say, but I bet he had slightly higher hopes.

[/ QUOTE ]

he either pissed away alot of valuable chips or took some chunky beats.

Though I dislike Matusow, I have to say a heads-up battle between him and Flack would be very entertaining in person.

I've heard of Brenes from somewhere, not Umberto obviously but I remember a relative of his being mentioned on some telecast somewhere.

And if Mike had that large a lead in chips, I have to believe he spewed his chips somehow...

What were the stack sizes?

[/ QUOTE ]

Someone posted it in this thread, they were about even. If that was the case, then I would love to know how the betting went resulting in all of the money going in PF (which it did, according to John Vorhous's blog). I can only imagine Brenes must have moved in first, I can't imagine he'd necessarily call an all-in with 22, unless he thought it was a coin-flip at best.

Should be interested to see it play out on TV.

Here was the hand that did him in, according to the blog. No stack size info, but Mike had 75k left after the hand, and was eliminated on the next hand:

Mike Matusow came close to eliminating Eric Brenes just now, but a miracle river kept Eric alive and sowed the seeds of Mike's demise.

Holding an 8-6, Eric raised all-in into a flop of Q-8- 5, only to get a call from Mike, holding Q-9. The turn, a 3, put Eric on the brink of elimination, but a six on the river saved him. Thus was Mike, himself saved by a miracle king a while back, eviscerated by the river.

Well, you know what they say: The river giveth and the river taketh away.

Mike couldn't believe his eyes.

in the blog at the time of Mike's big lead Vorhaus said something along the lines that Mike wanted a big win so bad that it was perhaps too big a monkey. How prophetic but it did seem like Matusow almost eliminated Brenes earlier but Eric caught a 2nd pair on the river. As 2005 champ says "Mike was going to go broke no matter what" LOL.

when calling an all in with 22 you are virtually garunteed to be a in a race at best.

He just walked up to the bar here and its safe to say it wasn't a pill he was looking to swallow

He seems pretty okay with the whole thing, disappointed no doubt, but ok.

Not a true guarantee, though. 22 can be a 2:1 favorite against A2, K2, etc.

Eric Brenes is your winner 22 vs 99. All the money goes in A64 flop and a 2 on the turn. Wow 1/2 million + 25k on a 2 outer. Tough pill to swallow

[/ QUOTE ]

Aruba only paid $500K for 1st. i thought it would've been more. this seemed to look like the biggest one yet.

[/ QUOTE ]

It was a million for first.
