The biggest threat to online poker is legislative. I've been playing online for 4 to 5 years, and IMHO, players are just as bad as they ever were. Quite frankly, bad players do not frequently become good players, nor do bad players stop playing.

I'm praying for ya, China.

One thing that seperates poker from most other games, is that it has to be for money, to make any sense.

In other games, the fish can play for fun, and have almost the same experience.

Thus there will be more fish in poker, than in other games for money.

If games that are -EV for the average Joe don't stay profitable in the long run, then how do slot machines light up the Strip?

This is a good point. Have any of you ever seen a fun and competitive play money poker game? The whole reason I started to play for real money was this very fact. The play money games are so increadibly loose that one may as well flip a coin over and over again for fun. The action needy fish also won't like the fact that their aces get cracked so frequently by 75s despite their EV going through the roof. They will say to themselves, "If people would only respect my raises, then I would win more often.", then go and register a real money account.

They have programs that you can use that play a decent game of BG, an online BG player told me that people were using these programs to make right decicions, poker is still by far played by humans not machines.

I wondered about this. Couldn't you just fire up Jellyfish or whatever - at the most advanced setting - and play according to it's moves when you play your online opps moves..? No site could ever tell?
