Even you are dominated by an over, a call is in order since you are getting 1:5 to call and you are 1:4 to hit your set.

You are not 4 to 1 to make a set. It's more like 7.5 to 1.

i reckon its a bit close - at the time i figured there was some chance i would see too big A's so i called

i feel guilty for my description of these players because the button had A8s and the SB A10o - an 8 flopped and nothing changed

Oops...still not getting 4:1 though, right?

It's 7.5:1 to hit on the flop (approx 11.75 percent). If you miss you have 2 outs to make the set. If memory serves, that's 22.5:1 (approx 4.25 percent). So the odds through the river would be (approximately) 16 percent or 5.25:1.

Not as big a difference as I originally thought, but the other poster was arguing that you should make a pot odds-based call here, getting 5:1 from the pot.

FWIW I agree that you must call here: it's the best chance you'll get.

LOL - OOPS back at you,

you forgot the turn. You get 2 outs twice.

Funny thing is if you think someone has a higher pair 77 is just like 65o, 78o, 36s and so on. And you are getting odds to call with all of them. If no one has a bigger pair your hand is quite good.
