A little liquor usually does the trick!

Also, from Daniel Negranau (sp?)'s website about keeping the fish happy...

Default Tourneys...

The best way to liven up that type of group is some tournament action. Our game has grown from 6 to 16 since we started skipping all the trash games and just play a tourney. Everyone can watch it on television any night of the week and feel like they can be a part of the action too. The payoffs are much nicer also. In a great night of playin $5 NL, with some players rebuying you may take home 25-30 bucks at best but if you 8-10 in a tourney the winner will take home twice that if you allow rebuys and add-ons for a specified period of time. The biggest difference is the 'nonplayer' will really "get into" the tournament atmosphere and should really liven up the game.

yeah do some small tournaments.. i'd make the blinds go up quickly though because the people that get knocked out will be bored....or......make it dealer's choice and play pot limit omaha/8 .. that game gets everyone going..

Yawkey; I repeat! Omaha! After you learn the concept of the game, then play Omaha-HI/LO. Lots of action-and a whole lot of challenging fun!

some advice
1. Be more interesting
2. bring alcohol
3. give them books to read
4. raise the buy in
5. set rules before you play that people cannot leave simply whenever they feel like. They should give everyone a heads up ATLEAST a half hour before the leave.
6. Create a jackpot, with best hand of the night getting it.
7. Alcohol
I hope this helps you boring bastards.

Great suggestions, a couple of them mentioned wanting to try Omaha, so maybe we can do that next week. Also I am all for tournament style, I would actually prefer that as that is what I play online. Alcohol is certainly essential, I stopped the game last night for a beer run (I don't know what they were thinking starting the game without it). Hopefully I can get this game turned around to a respectable game.

Thanks again,

Yawkey

while I may have been [censored] with you partly, serious try a jackpot where you take a small portion out of every large size pot and give it to the high hand. It actually promotes betting and chasing, which should liven the game up.
