Re: Automatic card shuffler--any good?
[ QUOTE ]
My best estimate is you can see anywhere from 10-15 more hands per hour, depending on the dealer. [/ QUOTE ] Whoa, the dealers where you play must be really terrible. I'd be very surprised if you got that many extra hands from a competent deal with the autoshuffler. That would be a 30-50% increase in hands - assuming competence. Regards, T |

Re: Automatic card shuffler--any good?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I'd think a quality shuffler (like the ones in casinos) should be good, dunno about the one in the link. [/ QUOTE ] Which casinos have quality ones. I recently played in both Flamingo and Bellagio with both auto shufflers and dealer shufflers. While the auto shufflers rate a 10 on a geek scale (the dealer pushes a button and the new deck is raised from a hole in the table), I don't think it took much less time than shuffling. When the machines broke, and we had to wait for them to get the cards out, it took longer. On home versions -- I seem to remember a hand crank model growing up that didn't break. Didn't save any time, or shuffle the cards any better than we did, but it didn't break. |

Re: Automatic card shuffler--any good?
I think this is the same shuffler I got as a birthday gift last week. I'm a sucker for electronic gadgets, but I don't think this one really makes much sense.
Here's why... This just does the automated equivalent of one shuffle. Which means, to get a decent shuffle, you're going to want to feed the cards to the machine 2, maybe three times at least. The mechanics of reloading just takes more time then simply doing it myself. I sometimes play with folks who are kind of slow or clumsy for shuffling, particularly when they're trying to play a hand at the same time. In those cases, it might save a bit of time, but it's going to be pretty rare that it does. Save the $. |
