Default Re: Checking TPTK on the Turn

[ QUOTE ]
...I am curious as to why you consider him overplaying his hand after a mere flop check?

[/ QUOTE ]

When somebody caps preflop and then check-calls the flop, it usually means one of two things: A monster, or a miss. I'm not just looking at the flop check itself.

But if he hit a straight/set/2-pair why would he check/call? The most he gains is he sucks you out for 1 BB instead of 1 SB. You've made it evident you have something and aren't going anywhere, so he should bet/raise with a good hand.

If he has a marginal hand (AK, AQ, AJ, TT, 99) you are tied or ahead in the hand and should be betting the turn.

In either case, he has played this hand badly, either by underplaying a made (possibly vulnerable) hand, or by overplaying his hand preflop. I just think it is too passive to assume your opponent is playing tricky, especially with evidence that he didn't play this well.
