I use pokertraker and gametime plus and I use the 'track observed tables' for 30 minutes or so before I pick a table. I look for tables with Loose Aggressive players and try to be patient. I wait for good hands and good position.
I try not to leak money.

It seems that tables go through loose tight fluctuations fairly quickly. Since I started using PT and tightening up a lot,not very long I know, my BB/100 stays about 6.

but I always do better with some tight-passives at the table

This is because, contrary to what many believe, the biggest fish are the tight passive players, rather than the loose agressive ones.
