I'll give the second obvious answer of the thread:

Yes, rebuys must be limited in some way, either in number allowed per player, or cut off at the end of a predetermined level. If not, a tournament could continue forever.

Would it be so bad to have people keep buying in for 5,000 chips when you've got 75,000 and blinks are 1K/2K? They're throwing good money after bad. And as you would assume, only the bad/unknowing players do it.

[/ QUOTE ]

If I buy in for 5k when you have 75k, I have a 6.25% chance to win. If I fail and rebuy for 5k when you have 80k, I have a 5.88% chance to win. And so on, until eventually I win.

Totally true...but we're not playing with and infinite number of dollars. And if you're buying in for 5,000 chips with blinds soon going to 2K/4K...are you good enough/smart enough to meet that 5.88% (which diminishes each re-buy)?

[/ QUOTE ]

Skill will be but a minor factor in a 80k vs 5k battle with 2k/4k blinds.

It does diminish each rebuy, but I'll keep going until I win. Then what, you start rebuying? Sounds like fun.

Stop arguing for the sake of arguing. You asked for advice. Take it or stick in your ear, I don't care.

I play in two regular tourneys that each use a slightly different rebuy technique. (they're both $10 buy-in)
One has a single $10 addon available to any player, in the first 4 levels, regardless of chip count.
The other has unlimited $5 rebuys thru the first 4 levels, plus 2 $5 add-ons at the end of the 4th level. You must be empty to do a rebuy, but everyone can take the add-on's regardless of chipcount.

Needless to say, the $5 unlimited rebuy is a very loose game and can be frustrating to the better players. (But the pots are pretty nice!)

Oh, and I have never played nor heard of a tourney that let you sit out hands and then buy back in. You have zero chips- you buy back in then and there or you're done. Skipping hands is not an option.
