Why would a player do this? If they were slowplaying the flop (like if they made a set), wouldn't they check-raise the turn?

Sometimes this line extracts the most from your opponent:

Eh, I think I got lucky that he overplayed his AQ. But the line definitely got more with a donkbet than a checkraise, because these kind of lines really confuse aggressive opponents.

"donkbet": unexpected bet from an early position player after shown aggression on previous street by a later positioned player. Not to be confused with stop-n-go.

very important and often underrated part of a poker player's arsenal. used for confusion, protection, and value (situation pending).

So in this particular case the advantage of the donkbet is you give the opponent the chance to cap, closing the action, so he'll still feel like the aggressor on the River?

My experience in the 3/6 in general is that decent players respect the turn c/r on a drawless board, and will dump a lot of hands below TPTK and go into call-down with any non-monster.

I don't usually see the kind of action you got without set/set or the occasional LAG-tard who is jamming it up with any piece of the board.

What's the math on the turn-donk with a strong hand....you hope to get 3-bets on the turn + 1 on the river for a total of 4 instead of the 3 you get with a turn c/r?

Plus you occasionally get 2 bets instead of 1 from a worse hand that would fold to a turn c/r or would fold the river if the donk didn't 'confuse' them?
