Re: Attn: Republicans
[ QUOTE ]
You have been given the green light to admit the glaringly obvious. [ QUOTE ] For the first time, Mr. Bush acknowledged that the government response to the catastrophe had fallen short. "The results are not acceptable," the president said as he left the White House, his face grim. [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] You still don't get it. No one has said that human beings are perfect. Mistakes are always made in every rescue, every war, every effort. A realistic assessment is that the job has been done as best as possible with inevitable mistakes. The leftist spin is always that things are terrible, that anything less than perfection is a failure. Thats like saying if you lose a hand of poker, you are a failure, even if you end the session up for the day. The criticisms are not founded in realism. |

Re: Attn: Republicans

that anything less than perfection is a failure [/ QUOTE ] This is not merely "less than perfection". This is an abject failure of a Republican administration and, to a lesser extent, a Republican Congress, to perform the proper functions of Government. And none of you caricaturing of your political opponents can change that. |

Re: Attn: Republicans
If Bush had been trying to spin this, he would not have said "The results are not acceptable" -- he might have said, "We can do better", or even "Things are going well, but we can do better ..."
"The results are not acceptable" is an honest assessment. "Why?" is still an open question. I see the failure almost completely at the State level and below. There is a reason the police/fire departments are constantly referred to as "first responders". I can see virtually no first response. |

Re: Attn: Republicans
Has the right wing echo chamber approved this response?
It is all the mayor's fault? I assume FEMA and the Dept. of HomeLand Security had the same map and weather information. |

A realistic assessment is that the job has been done as best as possible with inevitable mistakes. [/ QUOTE ] This is absolutely false. But what is even more incredbile to me is that you are so willing to overlook the federal government's blunders, yet continue to call the mayor out on your stupid ass assessment about buses, a criticism that nobody put on the record before the storm hit. So keep posting your dumb ass hurricane map and try to deflect criticism from your dear at heart administration to wherever a democrat might be. |

Re: Attn: Republicans
It must be so easy to govern in your world. All of the sudden, bus drivers just appear and people can just get on them.
Do you have any idea how complicated such a thing would be without a contingency plan? Informing all the bus drivers, informing all the people in New Orleans, and getting them out in an orderly way? I'm not going to blame Bush for this one - clearly he misunderestimated what was going on. But he has come out of this looking very ineffective, which is something he could have changed. |

[/ QUOTE ] The feds didn't have the buses or the drivers or the numbers of police etc. on the ground. Why is it so hard to understand that the people there to handle a crisis are the state and local officials? The feds have to travel before they can help out. Blanco and Nagin were in a position to do something, but they failed to act. |

[/ QUOTE ] i think its pretty clear that the blame falls 100% at the feet of NO city officials, and 0% at the white houses. after all, its not like the president should ever take responsibility for what went wrong, or step up and lead. isnt it clear that president bush has done everything he could? he make like 3 phone calls! |
