You're definitely ahead on the flop. Your strong player has called a bet, then a sizable raise, and I so I don't see set 8s or Ts. Bet the turn because you have the best hand. Maybe, as I think Worst Player or Soah mentioned, if you have a strong read as JJ or AT or something along those lines, the check is fine, but in order for the check to be correct, villain has to put you either on some weird overcard semibluff on the flop or exactly KT to fold hands like AT or JJ to a turn bet, so while it's somewhat player dependent, I think a turn bet is correct. In any event, it needs to get all in on the river. Villain can call with hands hero beats. I think Villain has TT and 88 less often in this spot than he calls with a T, a K, KT, or an 8 who made you for a bluff on the flop then tripped up on the river.

What hand does the solid player have that limps in ep and just smoothcalls a bet and then a big raise out of position?

This is incorrect.

What can villian have on the flop? TT, 88, T8, AT, JJ and QQ. TT, 88 and T8 can all be played in this fashion, and they all beat you. And since this opponent is good, he won't call with AT, JJ or QQ. So why raise?
